Tesla is set to “become the world’s largest vehicle export center”. Through a letter from the manufacturer to the authorities of Lingang, in Shanghai, the company plans to build its second plant in that city, where it will have the government’s backing to do so, according to Reuters news agency.
The importance of Tesla in Chinese territory was amply demonstrated after the help given to Elon Musk’s factory so that during three days, a disinfection process against COVID-19 was carried out to reopen its doors after being detained for 22 days, because since last April 19, they were not providing any service. The stoppage during those weeks led to the production of 50,000 electrified vehicles, according to figures provided by Reuters.
“They struggled for three consecutive days, working day and night and non-stop to ensure that our company’s workers could return to the factory”, states part of the letter from the North American company. In addition, it was also revealed that the authorities facilitated the transportation of 6,000 workers in charge of disinfection work in the area.

Now, beyond being back in operation, a new plant located in Shanghai will be built in order to offer a 450,000 electric vehicle production per year, where well-known models widely marketed by the brand, such as the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, will be manufactured.
During 2021, the plant located in the said city delivered 484,100 vehicles, so with this new project aims to exceed one million units assembled annually, being important the fact of re-establishing trade relations with the Chinese government after the complicated period it went through as a result of problems with data security and product quality, being strongly questioned.
