Lasse Sørensen and TK9 E-SPEED took the first World eX Prix

#RacingForTheClimate got underway with the highly anticipated season opener of the new RCCO World eX Championship. With teams from eight different nations and drivers from twelve countries, the grid lined up for the British eX Prix at Silverstone.

After six exciting levels it all came down to a TK9 E-SPEED team showdown against a wild card entry with Lasse Sørensen beating Jernej Simoncic to become the first winner of the eX Prix.

Combining the excitement of motorsport and a strong sustainability message by raising awareness of the climate crisis, World eX features six levels per event with action-packed short races that take drivers and teams from the heats to the semi-finals. Quarterfinals, final and ultimately and the superfinal.

From level 1, you could see the big names from the real-life motorsports world like António Félix da Costa, Bruno Senna, Romain Grosjean and more. The eleven winners of the one-lap race all advanced to Level 3, along with Michi Hoyer, who was the eventual winner of the Level 2, Last Chance race for the eleven drivers who lost at Level 1.

Race wins at level 3 went to Jernej Simoncic and Alen Terzic, who moved on to the next level along with the top four finishers.

Two races with four cars each at Level 4 followed for three laps of competition that concluded in the top three and moved up to Level 5. Terzic scored another win among esports racers, while Lasse Sørensen was at the top in the battle of professional racing drivers.

Tier 5 assembled the two grids in the finale over four race laps with six cars on the track to determine the two drivers who would fight for overall victory at Tier 6.

The grid lined up with Alen Terzic on pole, ahead of Martin Stefanko, Liam de Waal, Lasse Sørensen, Jernej Simoncic and Dries Vanthoor. The group of six drivers struggled to position themselves on the legendary Grand Prix circuit with a high-speed 1000-hp eX ZERO prototype train. Sørensen took the lead on the second lap, when he and Simoncic passed Alen Terzic for the top two important positions. Sørensen and Simoncic led from there and finished in that order.

The Super Final, Level 6, saw Jernej Simoncic and Lasse Sørensen go head to head to become the first World eX winner. Sørensen took the lead decisively into the highly contested first corner and Simoncic followed closely to the finish.

Despite Simoncic staying at attacking distance, Sørensen did not drive and crossed the line to win the British eX Prix, leading lucky number 7 team founder Mr. Le Mans Tom Kristensen to another victory in an international race.

“It was a good race and I am happy to take the victory in the Super Final. Looking forward to getting more experience with the eX ZERO,” said the young professional Danish racing driver. “The car is a lot of fun, it is very technical and not easy to drive.”

With his triumph, Sørensen has qualified for the special shootout on November 25 to crown the first overall World eX champion on the famous Nordschleife.
