ZeroAvia, a leading company in the zero-emission aviation sector, will launch the construction of its hydrogen-powered aircraft thanks to the addition of new financial backers who have shown interest in the project.

One of them was the Breakthrough Energy Ventures company, owned by Bill Gates, who was part of the Series A funding round organized by ZeroAvia.

Along with this Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund contributed a total of 21.4 million dollars to the cause, to which was also added the investment made by the United Kingdom government with 16.6 million dollars, according to a report by the Bloomberg News agency.

ZeroAvia said they aims to use the money to advance the development of technology that could reduce carbon emissions from the aviation sector by replacing fossil fuel burning propulsion with a hydrogen fuel cell system.

The company recently announced plans to work with the British airline, British Airways. The Nordic countries are also pushing to decarbonize domestic flights.

ZeroAvia aims to demonstrate that it can fly an aircraft with a range of 804 kilometers and up to 20 seats by 2023. While this may represent a clear change from the current standard in the aviation industry, developing a stack of fuel is not an impossible task.

A test flight has already been carried out successfully. It is expected that by 2023 ZeroAvia will be able to commercialize these fuel cells to other airlines; nevertheless, while the time arrives the company will continue to promote improvements that make them more powerful.

ZeroAvia remains optimistic about the advances that hydrogen fuel could bring to the world, as it continues to gain momentum and replace carbon. Carbon emissions to the atmosphere in 2019 exceeded one billion tons and that is why the energy of hydrogen could be very useful to reverse this damage.
