One month before the start of the long-awaited Gen3 era of Formula E, the teams present the car, livery and drivers that will accompany them in this new adventure of the electric series.

Avalanche Andretti officially announced its single-seater and defined the lineup of drivers that will represent it in season 9 of the World Championship endorsed by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

The team, now powered by Porsche, also unveiled its new driver lineup, with Andre Lotterer making the switch from TAG Heuer to Andretti to drive alongside Jake Dennis, who returns for a third season in Formula E.

The team is motivated and sees the opportunity that the Gen3 stage brings, with a clean slate across the board and a new, lighter, faster and more powerful race car to make the most of. With the new powertrain partnership with Porsche, expectations are high for the upcoming campaign.

Drivers Ready

Lotterer assured that his arrival at Avalanche Andretti represents an exciting challenge with the changes, tracks and the new car that will run on street circuits.

“I will work hard to get this team back to the front. I’ve already enjoyed my time working with the team in the off-season, so I’m excited to get started,” he said.

For his part, Dennis said he was eager to contest his third season in Avalanche Andretti colors, stressing that it is of utmost importance to adapt quickly to the modifications Formula E presents for season 9.

“Everyone starts on equal footing and the new tracks on the calendar will also be a challenge for everyone. I’m excited to get started and work with my new teammate on the track,” he added.

From the team’s top brass, Roger Griffiths, Avalanche Andretti Director, expressed his motivation with the season ahead. “A new look, a new lineup, a new car and a new manufacturer partnership, there’s a lot to be excited about as we embark on our ninth campaign in the ABB FIA Formula E FIA World Championship.”

“We couldn’t be more excited about what the future could hold for the team as we begin our assault on season 9, starting with the preseason test in Valencia,” the team’s top man punctuated.

After completing his cycle with the Porsche team, it was thought that Andre Lotterer’s future was far away from Formula E. The German firm reported at the end of season 8 that the driver was still in the plans, but in another category.

However, the racer has decided to stay in the electric single-seater series after accepting an offer from Avalanche Andretti, a team in which he will be teaming up with Jake Dennis.

“I’m excited to join Avalanche Andretti for Season 9 and the start of the Gen3 era. Working together with Jake will be a great combination to continue to push the team to the front of the field in Formula E,” Lotterer stated about the announcement.

Great Reception

Lotterer’s arrival to the team has generated great expectations. In that regard, Team President Michael Andretti and Director Roger Griffiths, agreed that the German’s experience will bring a lot to the Avalanche as they embark on the Gen3 era of Formula E.

“We are always building to be at the forefront of every series we compete in. Andre is bringing a wealth of experience to Avalanche Andretti and is another step in creating a team that can fight for wins and the World Championship. We look forward to him joining Jake to create a competitive and exciting lineup,” said Andretti.

Griffiths added that Lotterer’s experience, performance and energy will be a great addition to the team, whose goal for the upcoming season is to be at the top of the standings.

“With Jake as his teammate, we believe we will have a brilliant driver partnership to guide us through the series and help our roster continue to grow with fans and sponsors,” he said.

Interesting news continues to emerge ahead of the third generation (Gen3) of Formula E, scheduled for season 9 in 2023. After the return of Abt, McLaren and Maserati’s entry and the inclusion of Brazil in the calendar, the recently announced partnership between Porsche and Avalanche Andretti has been added.

The prestigious German brand will be the new supplier of powertrains and other services for Andretti, which until the “season seven” was an ally of BMW, technology that is still being used in the electric single-seater series.

“Avalanche Andretti will become a Porsche customer team for Formula E. The two iconic motorsport brands have a shared history on the track,” posted the Teutonic firm through its social networks.

New Stage

While it is true that they will coincide for the first time in Formula working together, the relationship between Andretti and Porsche dates back more than two decades.

Porsche and Andretti are linked by a long tradition, and it all began when Mario and Michael made their Le Mans debut in a Porsche 956 in 1983.

“We are delighted that the tradition continues in Formula E and hope that our partnership will be just as successful,” said Porsche Motorsport Vice President Thomas Laudenbach.

The executive further noted that Avalanche Andretti has competed in Formula E since the inaugural season in 2014, so it is a great vote of confidence that one of the most experienced teams has chosen to work alongside Porsche from season 9 and wants to field two Porsche 99X Electric race cars.

“It is important for us to support a customer team that demonstrates the same passion and professionalism in Formula E as we do,” added Laudenbach.

For Michel Andretti, the agreement is an important step for the future of the team and its commitment to the sport, partners and fans. “Our history with Porsche as two historic racing teams means this partnership was a natural fit, and we look forward to a new chapter starting in 2023.”

“Our journey in Formula E began with Season 1 and we are very proud to now look forward to the next generation of the sport. We have the ambition to win and, with Porsche’s support, we are confident in our performance and growth,” he stressed.

FIA Formula E season 7 is history. Now, the focus has been set on season 8 with several drivers promising to put on a real show when they get their hands behind the wheel. Lucas di Grassi has most of the spotlight, but there are other drivers to consider.

Precisely, a couple of “not so new rookies” tried (and are trying) to consolidate their name in order to be respected towards the future of the 100 electric single-seater category. They are Jake Dennis and Nick Cassidy, who will have another golden opportunity to consolidate all the knowledge acquired during their debut campaign.

Nick Cassidy

Envision Racing bet on Nick Cassidy for his arrival to the ABB FIA Formula E, and they were not wrong. The driver came to the category with several records (he won the Super GT, Formula 3 and Super Formula in Japan) under his belt that drew the attention, which is why he enjoys a place in the starting lineup.

Landing at Envision brought pressure, as he had to become Sam Bird’s replacement and live with it at every E-Prix of season 7. At the beginning, this certainly affected the New Zealander at the early rounds of the campaign, being overshadowed by his teammate Robin Frijns, but from the fourth stage onwards he made the necessary adjustments to beat his teammate by more than five seconds.

After that performance, he had flashes, highs and lows, but the truth is that for the future there is much more to see from Nick Cassidy, and surely his name will sound louder on the press when the green flag is lowered next season.

Jake Dennis

He came to the FIA Formula E under the command of the BMW i Andretti team, (now Avalanche Andretti) although this was unexpected. However, he managed to turn the spotlight on him on more than one occasion by claiming a pole position and a victory, something that many drivers throughout the category have not been able to achieve during their first season.

Of course, things had their good and bad moments, but the Englishman’s willingness to do things right earned him a deserved place as one of the team’s starting drivers with plenty to give at ABB FIA Formula E season 8. Both drivers will be a threat to the rest of the sustainable grid.
