On an area of 8,093,713 square meters and with an investment of 5 billion dollars, Rivian, the electric van manufacturer, has decided to put the meat on the grill by building a large complex to become one of the leaders in zero-emission vehicle production.
The massive complex will be located in Atlanta, Georgia, where it will produce up to 400,000 units per year. The beginning of the construction works of this new facility will start during summer, and will consider the necessary logistics, environmental impact and renewable energy production through solar panels or wind turbines.
The brand is expected to start manufacturing electric cars in 2024, with an estimated total of 7,500 direct jobs to be created.

Rivian’s new headquarters will consist of 13 buildings, one of them reserved for technology research and development, a training center and a vehicle delivery department.
In addition, a large sustainable ecosystem focused on electromobility is planned for the complex’s parking lots, with 144 electric car chargers for employees and visitors.
Helen Russell, Chief People Officer at Rivian, expressed her satisfaction at the positive reception to the project. “We are confident that Georgia, along with Illinois, is the place for Rivian to continue to grow and prosper.”
The Reasons for Expansion
Despite not generating immediate profits, Rivian broke all records within sales projections, and its bookings also represent encouraging numbers, which is why the company decided to pursue this new challenge.
Additionally, the manufacturer reached important agreements with the e-commerce giant, Amazon, announcing the acquisition of 100,000 delivery vans, and plans to increase that figure in the coming years. Walmart, another of the companies with the largest reach in the United States, also signed with the manufacturer to add electric cars to their fleets.
Besides Georgia’s plans, Rivian is also carrying out important expansion work at its plant located in Illinois with the inclusion of 57 thousand square meters of plots, bringing the total to 362,321 square meters.
Likewise, the brand intends to go beyond the borders of the United States, and in the first months of 2022 it was learned that there is a high possibility of opening other complexes in Europe, specifically in Great Britain and the Netherlands.
