Aiming to be a key player ahead of the arrival of Gen3 in ABB FIA Formula E, Envision Racing and Jaguar TCS Racing have agreed a multi-year agreement that will take effect from the 2022-2023 season, with the intention of joining forces on what will be the next step towards the evolution of the electric single-seater racing car.

Accordingly, Jaguar will provide Envision with a new high-voltage electric power unit, as well as the inverter, transmission, cooling system, housing and suspension. The two brands fully identify with each other, which is an important reason for the alliance. In addition, both are based in Great Britain.

Sharing a winning experience will be an important key to the development of the teams for the future. The agreement will run from 2022 to 2026. Between Envision Racing and Jaguar TCS Racing there are 15 wins and more than 40 podium finishes, placing the technical expertise of the two at service and benefit of the parties involved.

“I am proud to announce that we will be providing Envision Racing with our Jaguar powertrain in Gen3. They are one of the most competitive teams in Formula E and it is an honor they have chosen to use our technology for this new era of the category. We look forward to work and more success together in the future,” said James Barclay, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Motorsport.

“Jaguar and its factory team have been one of our fiercest competitors at Formula E since joining the Championship in 2016. The team’s advanced powertrain technology and overall commitment to their Formula E program made them the most attractive option for us,” said Sylvain Filippi, CEO and CTO of Envision Racing.

After a rookie campaign at ABB FIA Formula E, Norman Nato was left without a seat on the 2022 grid’s starting lineup. However, he has been given a new opportunity by Jaguar TCS Racing to serve as the team’s reserve driver.

The Frenchman has proven the necessary pace, consistency and talent to be at the 100% electric single-seater category, and while he may not be at the forefront of the media attention at the moment, from the sidelines he is preparing to learn all he can with the full intention of coming back stronger.

“Super excited to join the Jaguar TCS Racing team ahead of ABB FIA Formula E season 8 as a reserve driver. I am determined to help the organization achieve their objectives. Let’s go for it, team,” Nato stated on his official Twitter account following his signing with the British team.

“I am determined to help the team fighting for points, podiums and achieve a great performance. I have a lot to learn and discover, but I’ll be ready whenever I’m needed, either in or out of the Jaguar I-TYPE 5.”

On the other hand, Nato talked about the team’s starters. He shared a track with Mitch Evans from GP2 (now Formula 2), while he has known Sam Bird for several years, considers them both good friends and looks forward to supporting them in season 8.

Norman Nato’s Performance in 2021

A second place was scored on his list at the time of starting at the E-Prix of Rome with ROKiT Venturi Racing, finishing third in the race, but unfortunately he was disqualified as a result of consuming more energy than allowed by regulation.

In Valencia, he saw the chequered flag in second place, but a new penalty relegated him to fifth place after being found responsible for an incident with Alexander Lynn. Like any rookie, he has shown small mistakes, but that doesn’t mean he is not talented enough to be on the electrified division.

After a successful first season at Jaguar TCS Racing, Sam Bird secured his future at ABB FIA Formula E after agreeing a renewal contract with the team. Both parties will continue to work together towards sustainable mobility for motorsport, as well as the personal goals of the driver and the team.

In just his first official experience with the team, Bird showed great comfort behind the wheel, crossing first place at Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, which served as the season 7 opener. He also maintained a steady pace to finish sixth overall at the drivers’ standings.

He also managed to win again in New York City, along with a podium finish in Rome. Along with his teammate, Mitch Evans, he joined forces for Jaguar TCS Racing and finished second on the team championship, showing that the car has the potential to fight at the top of the table.

The whole team is determined, focused and ready to deliver results, and that’s exactly who I want to work with. Now it’s time to get the season eight underway…,” said the Briton after renewing his contract.

Formula E teams are fine-tuning their artillery ahead of Season 8 of the electric single-seater category. The tournament will arrive by 2022 with a new qualifying format and an expanded calendar with more races and new venues.

As for Jaguar Racing, it is reorganizing all departments and established a major alliance to strengthen the structure and development with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader on information technology, consulting and business solutions.

The India-based company expands the global sponsorship portfolio in sporting events, which already includes the New York, London and Amsterdam marathons, and will now venture into sustainable motorsport.

The Partnership’s Focus

Jaguar Land Rover and TCS will build on a broad commercial relationship. Translating leadership in technology transformation and experience of working with key players across the automotive value chain, the company has the ambition and conviction to support the team to become a global role model for electrification.

The rebranding of the team includes a rebranding of the successful Jaguar I-TYPE 5 race car for the upcoming Formula E season. In addition, Jaguar TCS Racing has begun a freshening of its image as part of the “Reimagine” strategy.

Jaguar TCS Racing aims to “reimagine racing” and use a high-profile championship to test, learn, develop, collaborate and share innovations, including cutting-edge electric vehicle technologies across Jaguar Land Rover, to benefit the future development of road cars.

The learnings and technology transfer from Formula E will help reinvent the Jaguar brand as an all-electric luxury manufacturer starting in 2025, matching the company’s commitment to the Gen3 era.

Organizational Changes

In the midst of Jaguar’s ongoing revamp, the experienced James Barclay takes over as managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Motorsport Limited, in addition to his role as team principal of Jaguar TCS Racing.

Meanwhile, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Thierry Bolloré, becomes chairman of the new organization. All future opportunities and benefits for the Jaguar and Land Rover brands will be explored through this newly formed division.

Heading into the final Gen2 season after the team’s most successful Formula E campaign, where they finished as runner-up on the constructors’ table, the British squad has a highly competitive and efficient single-seater racing car in the Jaguar I-TYPE 5, and one of the strongest driver pairings with Sam Bird and Mitch Evans returning to provide speed, consistency and highly valuable experience.
