It is no secret that Lamborghini’s history is based on offering high-performance sports cars equipped with V12 combustion engines. However, the Italian brand’s plans will change when the successor to model Aventador comes to life, which still has no name but will be a plug-in hybrid.
All of this as part of sustainable mobility changes pointing towards an emission-free scenario, which gradually is being fulfilled in different locations around the world. Therefore, Lamborghini will embark into this world by taking small steps in this green ecosystem with its first plug-in hybrid model.
This has been revealed by Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini CEO, through an interview with Autocar where he explained the brand’s future plans regarding electrification, including the model destined to replace the Lamborghini Aventador, scheduled to arrive in 2023 with a V12 engine and electric mechanics.

A New Era is Coming for Lamborghini
“You have to perform better than before. This is one of the rules of our business at Lamborghini. Each generation has to be better than the previous one. In terms of CO2 emissions, it’s a major change, but we’re convinced it’s going to work. The plug-in hybrid car that will follow the Aventador will have a V12 engine, so the sound and the history will remain alive,” said Winkelmann.
Now, one of the major changes for this new model will be the electric batteries, since the supercapacitor used on the Lamborghini Sián (the manufacturer’s first hybrid model) falls short on reducing carbon dioxide emissions while compensating all that is generated by the V12 combustion engines.
This model will not be the only hybrid car, as all Lamborghini vehicles will be assembled with this technology in 2023 and 2024 to comply with the company’s plan to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50%, something absolutely necessary nowadays, at a time of green mobility and constant efforts to eradicate toxic gases affecting planet Earth.
Despite the desire of many people to know specific details of the new vehicle, the Italian company’s CEO did not give any clues, although, considering it will be the Aventador’s successor, it should be a model capable of around 1,000 horsepower, offering a unique power usually provided by the manufacturer.
