Looking ahead to the conclusion of Extreme E season 1 in the UK, Veloce Racing will have a new driver line-up to contest the Jurassic X Prix. Jamie Chadwick is back on the ODYSSEY 21 after returning as the reigning W Series champion. However, this time he will have Lance Woolridge as his new teammate.

The South African will replace Stéphane Sarrazin, receiving his first opportunity in Extreme E to act as a starter after an important role throughout the debut campaign of the electric off-road category, as advisor to several teams and reserve and development driver, ready to jump as soon as an opportunity arose.

Woolridge arrives with enough endorsement to be behind the wheel of the ODYSSEY 21: Double South African Cross Country Series (SACCS) Class T Production Vehicle winner (2018-2019) and FIA SACCS runner-up. His resume at the off-road level allows him to take on this challenge with confidence and enthusiasm.

“I think I can speak for everyone at Veloce when I say that we are very excited to have two such talented drivers behind the wheel for the Extreme E season finale, and our home race,” said Rupert Svendsen-Cook, Team Principal.

“Lance has been doing a fantastic job as our reserve and development driver this season, as well as having a great year racing in South Africa, so we are delighted to give him this opportunity,” he continued.

He also highlighted Chadwick’s return to finish the inaugural Extreme E campaign on a high note, which captivated from the outset and throughout the course of which he was able to position himself in sustainable motorsport, win prestigious accolades and bring a different vision on how to address the effects of climate change.

“Likewise, Jamie has had an incredible year in the W Series and got our first podium in Senegal, let’s not forget, so he certainly knows his way around the ODYSSEY 21. Together, these two drivers will be a potent combination,” he concluded.

Extreme E is one of the motorsport electric categories that has caused a great impact since it was launched. Racing under principles of sustainability, zero-emission projections and gender equality are the guidelines determining the birth of the 100% electrified off-road division.

The vehicle used for this exciting, adrenaline and competition trip has been baptized ODYSSEY 21, an impressive beast with incredible performance that defies the most complicated and remote circuits in the world, from hard rocks, tropical and icy climates to the soft sand of the beaches.

Surely, many racing fans wonder what it would be like to take a ride aboard such a vehicle. Fortunately, Jamie Chadwick indulges and solves this concern, as she recently uploaded to her official Twitter account a short video of her driving the Veloce Racing team’s ODYSSEY 21.

This machine weighs 1,780 kilograms and 2.3 meters wide, allowing it to face difficult conditions, but at the same time makes any considerable blow end up with vital parts of it in full race (suspensions). The power it develops is 400 kW to reach 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.5 seconds.

The battery is developed by Williams Advanced Engineering and withstands extreme temperatures, providing 470 kW. The tires are manufactured by Continental, made to ensure traction on any surface. It also has an electric power steering system.

Initially, the unmistakable sound of an electric powertrain is appreciated, then, the vibration of the camera anticipates the complicated path transited by the British pilot, putting her senses to test at all times. With her eyes on track, Chadwick covers several meters until, at the end, the windshield is completely covered by mud.

For the end of the first season of Extreme E, Jamie Chadwick returns with everything to get behind the wheel again, looking for a good result for Veloce Racing when from 18 to 19 December Jurassic X Prix will be held in the UK, because remember that the British was absent for several X Prix to devote himself fully to achieve the championship of the W Series.

Jamie Chadwick, Williams F1 development driver and W Series champion, has joined Extreme E as Veloce Racing’s new female driver. She is one of the brightest young talents in the UK having achieved a host of titles in her career.

She took her first steps in motor racing at the Ginetta Junior Championship making a spectacular breakthrough by winning the 2015 British GT Championship in the GT4 class.

Chadwick subsequently moved on to the British Formula 3 Championship in 2017 and in 2019 achieved the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 crown. That same year, she became the first W Series champion with a pair of victories and five podium finishes in six races.

Feminine inspiration

She stands out as an ambassador for Girls on Track, an initiative led by Motorsport UK and the FIA to inspire more women to motorsport, making her a perfect figure for one of Veloce Racing and Extreme E’s shared core values: gender equality.

Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Extreme E expressed his satisfaction to have Chadwick in the competition.

“I am delighted to welcome her, she is an incredibly successful young driver. The series is taking shape very well before our first race in March 2021 and I am excited to see Jamie, along with all the other drivers behind the wheel of the championship electric SUV, “ Agag said.

Meanwhile, Chadwick stated that she is proud to drive for Veloce Racing in a championship as revolutionary as Extreme E.

Jamie Chadwick

“I have been involved with Veloce for a very  long time and they are like a family to me, so I am incredibly honoured  to be their female driver for what is such an exciting and important  race series”.

“Climate change is something that affects us all, so I’m really keen to  start doing my part to fight it. I can safely say that testing the car  was one of the best and most fun experiences I have had in my career so  far. I can’t wait to get out to the amazing venues where we’ll be racing  next year; these are some of the most beautiful and endangered  locations on our planet. Both on and off-track, it promises to be an  incredibly rewarding journey,” added.

The team trusts Chadwick

Ian Davies, Veloce Racing Team Manager, assured that the team is also delighted to have the pilot.

“We are delighted to have Jamie on-board at Veloce for the first season of Extreme E. She is a very quick, talented and committed young driver, with a pedigree that quite frankly speaks for itself. Having won titles in both sportscars and single-seaters, there is no reason at all why she shouldn’t transfer those skills and win in Extreme E, in what promises to be a very high-calibre field.” Davies added.
