The inaugural season of the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup is rapidly taking shape, as the arrival of a new team has been confirmed: EM Factory Team will be part of history by participating in the debut of the 100% electric off-road motorcycle category, following official confirmation from the series.

EM (Electric Motion) has been a pioneer of electric motorcycles for more than 10 years, designing, developing, promoting and distributing models around the world. Now, it joins the E-Xplorer adventure in order to continue leaving a sustainable footprint through motorsports.

The brand’s track record brings with it great accolades, such as titles in multiple trial championship categories, to competing against the best riders and the best gasoline-powered motorcycles in the world. “From project to reality: definitely the dawn of something great for off-road motorcycling,” the team assures.

Technology Excitement

“At E-Xplorer we think about the future, we are technology enthusiasts and we change the rules of the game to leave a legacy without a trace,” with these words, Valentin Guyonnet, CEO of FIM E-Xplorer World Cup, recently expressed what the new category of electrified motorcycles is all about.

The series will make its debut in the world of zero-emission motor racing. Backed by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and personalities such as Alejandro Agag, it will have 10 teams and 20 riders compete in five global events spanning a combination of urban and natural outdoor venues.

Aiming to tap into the growing appetite for the electrification of motorsport, the category will act as a test bed for two-wheeled technology, as well as attracting the next generation of climate-conscious fans.

“Born out of anti-conformity, we will electrify adventure. Teams made up of two women and one man, relay-style racing on short technical tracks in total gender equality between iconic global venues, from downtown to remote terrain, where every shift, every jump and every second counts, making a mark without a trace,” says FIM E-Xplorer World Cup.

Extreme E has managed to reach several parts of the world due to the action it offers through its races, without neglecting the sustainable section, fundamental in the operations it performs. In that sense, fans of the series in Slovenia will be able to continue enjoying the series after the renewal of Šport TV as official broadcaster.

The station, based in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, will continue to broadcast the action of the 100% electric off-road category through its channels Šport TV 1, Šport TV 2 and Šport TV 3. Similarly, they will show documentary programs to reveal what happens behind the scenes at Extreme E.

“The combination of Extreme E’s thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing combined with its mission of purposeful sport has already captured the imagination of Šport TV’s audience. I can’t wait to bring them more action when we return to race in Saudi Arabia very soon,” said Ali Russell, Extreme E’s Marketing Director.

Slovenia Leading the Way in Sustainability

It’s no wonder that Slovenia has a strong fan base, given that the country is listed as one of the cleanest and most sustainable countries in the world, as well as being one of the most biodiverse with more than 53% of its total land mass devoted entirely to protected forests.

It also has the highest concentration of animal and plant species per square kilometer in the world. All of this, coupled with Extreme E’s sustainable purpose, makes the thrill of racing blend seamlessly with the mission of a cleaner, more environmentally friendly landscape.

As if that wasn’t enough, the capital city of Ljubljana has been awarded ‘Europe’s Greenest’ by the European Union (EU).

“We are delighted to have expanded our exciting broadcast package with Šport TV. Slovenia not only loves its sport, but also shares many of Extreme E’s core values, including the importance of reducing carbon emissions through electric vehicle technology”, said Ali Russell.

“We are very excited to extend our partnership with the series after being part of the story since the first race. We are confident that our viewers can appreciate not only the racing part, but gender equality, the impact of climate change and the reduction of carbon emissions, values that we at Šport TV share with Extreme E,” says Miro Ćorić, editor-in-chief of Šport TV.

More and more, purposeful sports initiatives are coming to the sports market, knowing that the future will be electric, therefore, they are betting on elaborating new and daring unique competition categories, with special additives that turn them into new ways of feeling speed.

In that sense, Ace Championship will join a bunch of electric competitions, after Nina Abt Dreier, Marketing Specialist who has worked for Extreme E, Formula E and Red Bull, revealed the news through her official LinkedIn profile.

At the moment not many details are known about it, however, the images revealed through its official channels show a car similar to the second generation of Formula E. “After more than three incredible years with Extreme E, I’ve been working on an exciting new project that we can finally reveal,” says Abt Dreier.

“This new four-wheel electric racing series that focuses on talent development and innovation seeks to develop motorsport in underrepresented markets and deliver competitive and exciting racing,” continues Nina Abt Dreider.

New Electric Racing to Arrive in 2024

Dilbagh Gill is listed as CEO and Founder of Ace Championship, who is well-known in the Formula E world after serving as former CEO of Mahindra Racing, will be at the helm of a category that will seek to develop talent at all levels, ensuring that this championship is a “feeder” platform for drivers and engineering talent to move on to other racing series.

In this way, the series also aims to become a leading talent development unit by offering an affordable entry to racing for young drivers, providing an unprecedented opportunity to grow and hone their skills.

It will feature two levels of competition: the entry level Challenger Series and the top-tier Championship, where both categories will feature the same car, meaning each team will have up to four drivers in two categories with two cars.

The world is changing very fast. One car that will perform at two different power levels. There are people out there coming here who want to become engineers, so we feel Ace Championship could be a perfect clearance for them. This championship will break down barriers and allow people to get into motorsports. It’s about innovation and opportunity,” says Dilbagh Gill.

Tesla has been a resounding success in the automotive market with its production vehicles. Variants such as Model 3 and Model Y are among people’s favorites, although, Elon Musk has always wanted to go beyond success.

The South African outlined plans for the electric car company that encompass trucks, vans, autonomous driving system and charging stations. In the vehicle section, the Tesla Cybertruck was able to win a space in the automotive segment despite not having made its official debut.

From the moment it was announced, it caused a sensation due to its physical and technical specifications. A rather peculiar design accompanied by electrified power were part of the features that were revealed at the time.

Knowing that it would be manufactured with space rocket materials (those used by SpaceX) also added a plus of curiosity and appeal towards the SUV. However, several events have consistently delayed its mass production.

Inside the Cybertruck

Several prototypes have managed to overcome the obstacles to be put to the test. Precisely, one of them has been driven by Whole Mars Catalog, who a few months ago uploaded a small fragment to their official Twitter account showing part of the interior.

The Tesla Cybertruck was driven at the Texas Gigafactory facilities. The video is short, so you can only see the transparent glass roof and the information screen located next to the driver.

The production of the pickup truck will enter the production phase in mid-2023, although with so many problems that Tesla has gone through with this model, it is not surprising that new circumstances will delay Elon Musk’s plans.

In addition, the physical and technical specifications along with the previously known price of the Cybertruck will be modified, as stated by the company’s CEO a few weeks ago.

“A lot has changed since then, so the specs and pricing will be different. I hate to give some sort of bad news. But I think there’s no way to anticipate the inflation that we’ve seen and the various problems,” Musk said at the Cyber Roundup shareholder event.

The halo is a safety device used in single-seater motorsport designed to protect the head and neck of drivers in case of accidents, composed of a carbon or aluminum ring surrounding the car cockpit, connected to the vehicle structure through several mounting points.

It was introduced originally in Formula 1 in 2018, being adopted by other motorsport championships around the world, such as Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula E, with the main objective of improving safety standards, serving as a device to prevent injuries in the critical areas of the human body mentioned recently.

Before this tool, drivers only had a helmet and a HANS to protect themselves in case of an accident. However, it was not always enough to protect them against serious injuries, such as skull fractures or cervical injuries.

Now, the halo provides an additional barrier that helps protect the head and neck from external objects in the event of an impact. Several accidents served as study data to come up with its shape and implementation, such as the one involving Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, where the Ferrari driver at the time may have lost his hands.

Initial Criticism and Performance

Despite the blessing it currently represents in single-seater racing, the halo has also been criticized by some due to its appearance, as well as affecting the driver’s forward visibility. However, the biggest criticism originated from its aesthetic form, which somewhat overshadows the beauty of the car itself.

However, engineers have worked to ensure that the halo does not affect visibility and that it is light enough not to affect the car’s performance. On the other hand, in terms of safety, it has passed with flying colors, saving several lives in Formula 1.

Charles Leclerc suffered an accident while racing for Alfa Romeo where the halo saved him from a very strong impact of a tire on his head. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were involved in a collision where he also came into the limelight after avoiding a heavy blow to the Briton’s head.

However, the most notable case of his role was the accident of the Chinese Guanyu Zhou, when his car was completely inverted, covering several meters of asphalt in this way but avoiding direct contact between the ground and the driver’s head. Finally, another success story was the terrible accident of Romain Grosjean, where his Haas car was split in half.

In conclusion, aesthetically it may not be very pleasant, but undoubtedly its entry into motorsport has made the difference between life and death for several Formula 1 drivers, without counting those in other categories.

After two seasons to forget, Sebastien Buemi is proving why his name is inscribed among the historic champions of Formula E, by lifting the scepter in season 2.

In the three races so far in the Gen3 era, the driver has placed among the first six on the grid with great pace and control of a car that is still new for all teams.

Buemi made his 99th race start from Julius Baer Pole Position in race one. Envision Racing’s I-TYPE 6 proved to be one of the best single-seaters of the weekend in Diriyah, second only to Porsche.

“I was lucky in the final corner where Hughes lost control and his car went out, which meant I could pass Mitch (Evans) at the line.” “I feel like we’re getting stronger and now we can regroup and look ahead to India, we’re getting better and better,” Buemi told the official Formula E website.

Buemi’s teammate Nick Cassidy also came in the top 10, which represented a feel-good weekend for Envision. “It’s very early in the Gen 3 era and it’s important to understand what works and what doesn’t work with the car,” said Team Principal Sylvain Filippi.

Standout Numbers

Diriyah saw Buemi, Jean-Eric Vergne (DS PENSKE) and Sam Bird (Jaguar TCS Racing) join Lucas di Grassi as the only drivers to reach 100 races in the electric single-seater series.

In qualifying for Round 2, Buemi took his first Julius Baer Pole Position since New York City in Season 5, and his first front row start since Berlin in Season 6.

Now, the Envision representative equals Vergne for the total number of pole positions in Formula E (15) and holds the record for the most front row openings (22).

By being on the front row with Jake Hughes, the Swiss has now shared the start row with 16 different drivers in Formula E, which is a record within the competition.

Brakes for sports racing are a crucial component to ensure safety and performance during competition, where the difference with conventional brakes lies in the fact that they must be able to withstand high speeds and hard braking.

They are usually disc brakes (Brembo), since they offer greater braking capacity and heat resistance compared to drum brakes. They also use high-performance brake pads and brake fluid specially designed to withstand high temperatures.

In addition, they usually have cooling systems, such as air or fluid ducts to help dissipate the heat generated during the intense use during the race, keeping the brakes in good condition and avoiding premature wear or melting of the pads, as they must constantly be able to stop a car (single-seater or conventional) from 300 kilometers per hour at 60 or 70 km/h in a few seconds.

In racing, drivers can also adjust brake settings to suit track conditions and their driving style, such as pressure, brake distribution between the front and rear wheels, and overall roll.

Components

A sports racing braking system is made up of several essential components that ensure optimum performance, as well as safety and confidence in stopping the car. These are: Discs, pads, pump, fluid, cooling, control.

Brake discs: Main part of the system for racing, since they are capable of withstanding high speeds and hard braking, made of steel or carbon-ceramic to improve heat resistance.

Pads: They are in charge of coming into direct contact with the discs to generate the necessary friction to stop the car.

Brake pump: It produces the pressure required to activate the brake pads, being more powerful than those used in street vehicles. Fluid: It is the fluid used to transmit the pressure from the pump to the pads, specially designed to withstand high temperatures, as well as resistance to degradation.

Cooling systems: Help dissipate heat generated during intense racing use, which can be air or fluid lines to help keep the brakes in good condition.

Control systems: Allow drivers to adjust settings to suit track conditions and their driving style.
