Maximilian Günther had everything cooked. While there was talk about the uncertain future of the German driver after the end of the ” season seven” of Formula E, because of BMW’s departure, he calmly and confidently declared that he would continue in the electric single-seater series.
The driver already got a team shortly and now he will defend Nissan e.dams’ colors for the 2022 season. The team confirmed his presence on the grid by committing to the Gen3 regulations, increasing Günther’s possibilities of continuing on the grid, while teams are leaning towards maintaining their line-up for next summer to develop the new car.
Behind the wheel of the BMW, he became the youngest race winner in the Championship, but the manufacturer’s departure forced him to make a change of scenery.

“Competing with one of the world’s biggest car manufacturers is an honor and a big step in my career. I am looking forward to this exciting journey,” he added.
Oliver Rowland, who occupied the seat that the German will have at Nissan, is expected to sign for Mahindra Racing in the next few days, as he has already tested on the team’s simulator.
Waiting With Open Arms
Nissan’s Chief Operating Officer, Ashwani Gupta noted after the news: “Maximilian brings a lot of experience with three Formula E race wins under his belt. I am confident that he will adapt very quickly and succeed in what is one of the most talented grids of all global motorsport categories.”
“Our long-term commitment to Formula E gives us a powerful platform from which to demonstrate the exciting performance of our zero-emission electric vehicle technology, and how racing in the all-electric series helps us build better cars for our customers through our technology transfer engineering collaboration from the track to the road,” he maintained.
Nissan e.dams has also confirmed that Super GT and Super Formula driver Mitsunori Takaboshi will continue in his role as a test and reserve driver. Meanwhile, Jann Mardenborough will remain as the team’s simulator driver.
