After a few months ago the presentation of a train capable of levitating astonished all and sundry, China is once again coming up with an innovation that promises to revolutionize the automotive industry.
It should be noted that the Asian country has become a true laboratory for new technologies, including those related to electromobility, a market that dominates the world market and is expected to exceed its own sales estimates by 2022.
The Southwest Jiaotong University tested a new car that works through magnetic levitation (maglev). The vehicle, which weighs about 2.8 tons, moved 35 millimeters above the road surface, according to local media.
What is the Basis of the Innovation?
According to the Xinhua news agency, the car was supported by a design with magnets that allow it to be guided on the road using magnetic levitation.
Magnetic levitation is a technology regularly used in maglev trains, which float approximately 12 centimeters above a guideway where there is no friction and high speeds can be developed without any vibration and noise.
The acceleration of this system arises from the magnetic forces that develop between the powerful superconducting magnets located in the trains.
University professor, Deng Zigang, one of the leaders of the project, emphasized that based on the success of the test, they will continue with the development of maglev technology vehicles with the aim of reducing energy consumption and increasing the range of distances that the cars can travel.
The test was organized by the Jiangsu provincial transportation authorities to study road design and appropriate safety measures in the event of high-speed driving with new alternative propulsion technologies to combustion engines.
