Formula E action is back, as part of Season 8 of the electric single-seater series. After two years of pandemic, the Rome circuit will welcome a large number of fans who will color an exciting show.
Street racing had not been part of Roman culture for 62 years prior to Formula E’s 2018 visit, and the circuit uses parts of the old Tre Fontane circuit from the 1920s, with the starting line on Via delle Tre Fontane.
In addition to counting on the return of the fans, the E-Prix of Rome will have the particularity of witnessing the Italian driver, Antonio Giovinazzi, who despite having had an awkward start in the championship wearing the colors of Dragon Penske, is one of the benchmarks of motorsport in Italy.
The Route
The 3.385 km, 19-turn Cittadino dell’EUR Circuit, one of the longest on the Formula E calendar, is a mix of high speed, complex and tight sections and undulations with plenty of overtaking opportunities.
The 22 all-electric single-seaters will drive around iconic landmarks such as the Palazzo dei Congressi and Piazzale Marconi, as well as the iconic Palazzo della Civilta Italiana, known as the “Square Coliseum” with the Parco Ninfeo forming part of the circuit perimeter. A new update for this one is the modification made between turns 3 and 4 with the finish on the approach to turn 19.
For the 2020-2021 season, Jean-Eric Vergne took the honors in the Italian capital during the first race, while Mercedes-EQ representative Stoffel Vandoorne led Sunday’s round 4.
How is the Tournament Going?
In the current season, second as FIA-endorsed World Championship, Edoardo Mortara remains as Drivers’ leader after three good results by finishing in the top six, including a victory in race two in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
A strong performance by his Rokit Venturi Racing teammate Lucas Di Grassi on Arabian soil helped ensure that the Monegasque squad had enough of a lead over the rest to also move to the top of the constructors’ table, ahead of Mercedes.

Reigning champion Nyck de Vries is in second place after scoring points in each of the rounds so far, together with Jean-Eric Vergne, Mortara and Jake Dennis.
The first three rounds of the campaign have seen three different race winners, including a historic double for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team at the last race, the Mexico City E-Prix, with the manufacturer’s first victory in the history of the competition.
Pascal Wehrlein took the honors on Mexican soil. The 27-year-old led the 1-2, with Andre Lotterer in close company and the pair took a one-lap lead to win comfortably.
The table is set for the great Roman event, to be held this Saturday 9 and Sunday 10, where in addition to welcoming fans at the circuit, Formula E has arranged all its digital channels to be able to witness all the details of the stop in Italy.
