The year 2024 will be a crucial date for Honda. By that year, the company’s branch office in China is scheduled to begin operations at a large EV factory responsible for carrying out all production processes from start to finish.
Stamping, welding, painting, assembly and complete inspection will be carried out at the complex. In addition, it seeks to achieve an industry-leading level of automation, mainly on the assembly side.
The plant seeks to proactively implement sustainability initiatives. In doing so, they will include the use of renewable energies such as Solar Energy, recycled water use, and reduction of VOC emissions.
Proposal Scope
The project will be built in the so-called “Economic Development Zone” of Wuhan and will have a 630,000 square meter site, with an annual production capacity of 120,000 electric vehicles.
Honda’s announcement is aligned with their electrification strategy and efforts, towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and offering attractive products to exceed customer expectations.
To achieve the targets, Honda will invest about 5 trillion yen over the next six years, to be allocated for research and development of new technologies. In addition, it will focus on hybrid production, intended to replace most combustion cars by 2040, and on the inclusion of advanced driving assistance systems on all models by 2030.
New Releases
Alongside the announcement of the new factory, Honda unveiled a total of five all-electric prototypes to complete the range of the upcoming electric sub-brand called e:N.
For this 2022, the Japanese company will release the first two models signed by the e:NS1 and e:NP1 bodies. Both are SUV format cars based on the image of the Honda HR-V presented a few months ago and the concept that preceded all of them, which was revealed at the beginning of 2021: the e:Prototype.
These two cars will differ aesthetically through different bumpers and a somewhat more dynamic bodywork in the case of the e:NS1. They will have a range of 500 kilometers.
